Assistant Superintendent

Position Overview:


R.J. Leeper Construction is seeking a dedicated and skilled Assistant Superintendent to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial construction, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. This role involves assisting in the supervision and coordination of day-to-day construction activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Safety First: Ensure that all subcontractors are fully executing and complying with all jobsite safety requirements and regulations.
  • Daily Inspections: Assist in the inspection and commissioning of day-to-day construction work to enforce conformity to specifications.
  • Advisory Role: Act as an adviser on all project-related activities in trade performance and execution of work.
  • Construction Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of all phases of building construction, including ground up and upfit/renovations.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Identify subcontractor noncompliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
  • Conflict Resolution: Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the project team for resolution.
  • Daily Log Maintenance: Maintain a daily log (written) of activities on the jobsite.
  • Project Monitoring: Walk the project daily to monitor activities and assist in future planning for successful project completion.
  • Scope Identification: Identify areas of work that are outside of subcontracted scope.
  • Subcontractor Management: Ensure that subcontractors are fully executing and complying with their contracted scope of work.


General Background and Minimum Requirements:


  1. Safety and Communication: Candidate must have a good safety record and strong communication skills.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience managing construction job sites.
  3. Commercial Construction: Experience in commercial construction, including ground up, renovations, and/or up-fits.
  4. Subcontractor Management: Proven experience managing project subcontractors.
